Finally completed the Project!

Last year one of my neighbour introduced me with the art of quilling just one and half month before Ganesha Festival. I was eager to learn quilling. I searched on the internet and got information. Then I decided to do the quilling patterned decoration behind Ganesha idol for Ganesha Festival.

But in the nearby store only multicoloured quilling strips were available in a pack and those different colours were not sufficient for my decoration. So I decided to buy paper and cut the strips. But the papers in specific colour shades were not available in any store that time to whom I visited. So me and my family members searched in lot of stores and every time returned with some other colour's paper. In this way I got Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Violet papers, so I decided to do the decoration in 7 colours of VIBGYOR. (Later on I got the shades which I wanted and I also used them in my decoration.)

Cutting paper strips was tiresome work and my father helped me for that. While cutting papers I put those papers on newspaper and kept it on pad, so my pad got scratches of blade. Later on I found out about paper cutting mat and purchased it. My work was about to complete but due to some unfortunate events I had to stop my work suddenly.

So after the last Ganesha festival I again started my work. This time I got some new shades, so I added them in my decoration and made some new flowers. But again due to the dust problem I stopped my work. Now in Rainy season  I started it again and finally completed the quilling part of it.

Now I have two options, first is apply some waterproof coating on quill work and then paste it on thick cardboard with white background, and the second option is paste the quill work on some white backgronud paper and make a box frame of that design and use it as background.

Now I have arranged these quilled flowers roughly on a blue cloth just to give an idea about the entire decoration. All this work is done by using 5 mm strips. Have a look on it.

Kundan Rangoli

After a long break the problem of dust is now over due to rainy season and I decided to start with something else. In Indian festivals Ragoli decoration is must and now the season of festivals will begin soon. So I decided to make kundan rangoli.

I would have preferred multicoloured kundan stones of medium size, but what I got in store was small sized, only pink coloured kundan stones and gold runner (golden beads) and star shaped decoration items. Though I was not happy about the material, I started my work and cut the OHP sheet in desired shape.

Pasting kundans on OHP sheet was quite tiresome work as the glue was spreading outside the kundan stones. After pasting kundans on the border of first piece, I suddenly remembered that there are leftover pearl beads in my home which I had bought and used for making jewellery few years ago. So I decided to use those pearl beads. The pearl beads added their own effect and now the Rangoli looks like this...

The advantage of Kundan Rangoli is that we can arrange the pieces in different way. If there is sufficint place to put big sized rangoli then we can use all the pieces. If the place is littile then we can arrange only some of the pieces as this...

Or we can just keep the central piece as Rangoli...

Or we can just keep one smallest piece as Rangoli. Also it looks quite attractive. This rangoli is a good option for those who are not very good in making powdered rangoli.
